Where has the time gone?

Yes.. Yes.. I know it's been almost a month since I've blog.

Here is a quick update about what all has been going on:

1. Mom is doing okay right now. She had her first chemo treatment on December 3rd. She goes again on Christmas Eve. She got sick on the Saturday following the first treatment. Pray that she doesn't get sick this go around. I would hate for her to be sick on Christmas. We set up a webpage for her through caringbridge. If you would like, you can go to visit it at www.caringbridge.org/visit/monettevinson.

2. School is coming to a close for the year. WOO HOO!!! I'm so excited. The kids are getting excited as well. They have been that way for probably a few weeks now. We have this week left. Tomorrow(Monday) we have a "movie day" after school. This is where parents can leave their kids for a couple of hours and go shopping, clean house, etc. without having to deal with the kids. On Thursday, we have our Christmas musical at school. They have been working hard on it. Friday is a half-day. We have our individual class parties, then we go out and have a gingerbread house making party and celebrate with "Happy Birthday, Jesus" cake. After all the kids have left, the teachers are going to have their staff Christmas party.

3. Christmas and New Year's are fast approaching. Where has this year gone? Good grief! It's been a whirlwind year, that's for sure! I am going to try to be better about blogging this next year. I'm not going to make any promises though. If you are trying to get a hold of me, e-mail me or check me out on facebook. I'm usually on there. :D

Well... I know I most likely will not blog before the New Year starts so...

(singing) "I wish you a Merry Christmas, I wish you a Merry Christmas, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!" Merry Christmas to all my friends. Blessings to you and your family for a happy, healthy 2009! I love you all!

Mom Update

I'm posting another update about my mom. This was in an e-mail that my sister sent to everyone.

Dear Family and Friends,
We wanted to give all of you an update on Mom. First, she is recuperating from the surgery ok. She takes more "Rest Breaks" than she used to and has gone back to work.
Mom saw the oncologist last Friday. She and Dad spent 4 hours there....getting blood work done, seeing the doctor and getting all sorts of information that had their heads swimming when they left.
We were hoping and praying that Mom would only need radiation but she will have to have both chemo and radiation. She will have her first chemo treatment on December 3rd and every 3 weeks after that for 6 treatments. After the chemo treatments she will have radiation.
This next week will be spent seeing a surgeon to insert a port since they will be drawing so much blood and they can't use her right arm. This will also be used to get the chemo into her body. She also has to have a bone scan, liver scan and a lung scan done as well. On Thursday, she will have an echocardigram done on her heart, because one of the drugs she will be getting can do damage to the heart muscle.

Things to pray for specifically:
-That Mom will stay strong through all of her chemo treatments.
-That she will not get sick from her treatments.
-She will most likely loose her hair, pray that this will be easy to deal with, not a burden.
-Dad that he will also stay healthy through all of this.
-The mental aspect of all of this.
-Understanding, everything the doctors tell us.
I know there is more, but this is a start. Please also keep Kimberly and I in your prayers as well. We will keep you posted as the treatments start.

Hope everyone has a wonderful "Thanksgiving Holiday". We need to remember that in the life of a believer, God "works all things together for good" (Romans 8:28) and that includes cancer.

Thank you to those who are continuing to pray for us. Like my sister said, we will try to keep everyone updated throughout this. I hope everyone is doing well.

Have a HAPPY Thanksgiving!

A Quick Update

Just a quick little update to let all of you know what's going on with my Mom.

Mom had her surgery on Thursday morning. It was about a 3 hour surgery. I didn't go back to Dallas because I figured she would need me more when I come home for the holidays. My sister kept me up-to-date with everything. She said that the nurse called them every 30 minutes to 1 hour to let them know of the progress. Now.. how many doctors really do that?!? Anyways... she came through it like a little trooper. My dad said it was kinda funny being on this side of the table. (My dad has had his fair share of surgeries and hospital stays... more than we would like to count!) I called Mom on Friday morning. She said that she had got sick several times and was dizzy. She had a phone call into the doctor but hadn't heard of anything. She sounded very sleepy. I asked her if she was in any pain and she said that she didn't really have a lot. That is a good thing.

I haven't called back to check on her, but I will later on today. I will try to keep you updated on how things are going. Please continue to keep us all in your prayers. We appreciate all of them.

I've been playing Hide and Go Seek but you found me!

Okay... so you're probably beginning to ask yourself, "Where is the world have I been?!?". I haven't blogged in over a month. Shame on me. Well.. it's been a long month, let me tell you.

First it was the hurricane and dealing with all the aftermath of it. Then I had to deal with getting back into the swing of things at school. Who knew that being out of school for almost a week would do that to you?!? Now that I think I have things at school under control, it's time for Parent/Teacher conference and report cards. Good grief! Is it summer yet!?! Just kidding! I could use a little mini break though. Hmm.. Thanksgiving is just around the corner.

Anyways... more importantly, the past week has been kinda rough for my family. My mom, who is 61, just got diagnosed with breast cancer. She is dealing with it well from my standpoint. The way she found out was that she went in for her normal mammogram and the doctors found what they thought to be a cyst. They did a needle biopsy to determine the status of it. It turned out to be cancer. She has to masses. One is 2.4 cm in length and the other is 0.6 cm. She is planned to have a lumpectomy on Thursday, October 30th. That all depends on the pre-op things she needs to have done, which have to be pre-approved by insurance. If all goes according to plan, she will have her surgery then. They are hopeful that they will not have to do any kind of chemo or radiation, but it all depends on what the pathology report says.

I don't know anything else at the moment. Continue to keep my family in your thoughts and prayers. We could use it right now. I'm excited though because I will get to see them this weekend. They are coming down to celebrate my sister's and Lillie's birthdays. It should hopefully be a good time.

Well.. I have some things for school to get finished, so I'll sign off for now. I will try harder to blog more. :D

Electricity is such a WONDERFUL thing!

Do you remember the high school chant we used to do?
"We've got spirit, yes we do. We've got spirit, how 'bout you?"

Well.. this was my chant last night
"We've got power, yes we do. We've got power, how 'bout you?"

We've been without power since about Friday night/Saturday morning. We decided to stay here during the hurricane. We didn't have much damage here. We lost a tree in our backyard as well as some limbs and leaves. We had to clean out our fridge and freezer since we lost power. I guess that was a good thing. I've been needing to do that!

We haven't had school since Thursday. We'll go back this Thursday. I know the kids are probably ready to get back.. yeah right! :D I know I am. I'm tired of just sitting at home watching the same television coverage day and night. I was glad to see some regular programming was on tv last night. I didn't see the Cowboys game though. :(

I've talked to some of my friends who live up north of me in Spring. They still don't have power. They are having to use generators. Pray for them. I know it's probably getting hot and boring up there with no power. Pray for the rest of Houston and especially the Galveston area. If you've watched any of the news, you saw the devestation there is. It's going to take a LONG time to get back to some sort of normalcy.

Well.. I wanted to update you and let you know that I am doing okay. I hope that everyone else is doing okay as well.

"Hunkering" Down

It's either time to start "hunkering" down or leave the homestead and head north. Hurricane Ike is on his way. I'm planning on staying here unless things get bad. Jim's Mom and Sister are here as well. We've got some water, food and batteries.

I have a bag packed and ready to go if they make us go. School is closed tomorrow. Depending on how bad the storm gets, we might not have it on Monday due to down power lines or whatever.

Pray for the people that are staying behind that live right on the coast. Pray for us that there isn't a lot of damage due to wind or tornadoes.

I'll blog once we're in the clear with everything and tell you how things went.

3rd Week and still going!

It's the 3rd week of school. This is actually the first full week that we've been in school. The past 2 weeks we didn't go all week due to just starting or Labor Day. I haven't gained any kids, so my count still stands at 8. Things are going pretty well. I LOVE having a big room. I have a roller chair, so it's easy to roll to one side of the room when I'm working with one grade and then roll over and work with the other grade. It also makes things easier because I'm at their level when I'm writing things on the board.

My kids are pretty good. I have 2 behavior systems in my class. One is where they have their name on a clip and they have to move it through our color chart if they are bad. They start on Green 1 and then move to Green 2, Yellow then Red. Luckily I haven't had anyone get to Red yet. I hope it doesn't start either. The other system is a "gold coin". They can earn these by doing something without being told to, being a good friend and things like that. When you get 10 coins, you can go into the "treasure box". I have been told that I have a pretty neat treasure box. :) I've already had a few get to go there. I hope they continue to be good. I know they can do it.

Other than school, not much is going on. I've just been going to school, coming home and doing a few things around the house and that's about it.

Well.. It's getting close to school being out. Yes.. I am writing at school. No.. my students are not in the room. They are at Art right now, so I had a few minutes. Good grief! Do you think I would write on my blog while school was in session!?! What kind of a teacher do you think I am!?! :)

(Don't answer that last question rhetorically!)

First Day of School

Today was our first day at school. I have 8 students this year. I have 5 in 1st grade and 3 in 2nd grade.

My room is really cute looking. I have my decorations up. I have a bigger room this year and lots of people said that I really lucked out this year. It's like I have a brand new room. New paint on the walls, new carpet, new shelves, a newer desk and more space. (They knocked down the wall joining my old room and the room next door, so I now have both rooms!)

Today went pretty smooth. I went over all the things in my class, like rules and where to find things. We read some stories, played some games and practiced our cursive handwriting. Yes, I did say cursive. I have to teach 1st and 2nd graders cursive. I didn't even learn cursive until I was probably in 3rd or 4th grade. Some of my 1st graders are just learning to print good. Yikes!

I have a good bunch of kids. It should be a pretty good year. I'll blog more as the year progresses.

We'll see what tomorrow holds!

2000 Miles+ 5 States+ a family of 4 = VACATION!

We just got back last night from our vacation. We left last Thursday about 7am and headed for Tennessee. We didn't get too far until we hit a "road block" shall we say. There was a MAJOR wreck on I-30 going East. We were forced to sit on the highway for 2 HOURS..yes, I did say 2 HOURS!

There was an 18-wheeler that had pulled off to the shoulder and had its flares up. A little VW Passat came by and clipped the back end of the trailer and ran up underneath the truck. We still don't know if there was a medical emergency, they didn't see him or fell asleep at the wheel. Careflight had to come as well. The passenger died on impact and the driver had to be extricated from the car. I think they later died at the hospital. The truck driver wasn't hurt. Pray for this family. I know they are grieving right now.

Well... after sitting on the highway for that long we were finally able to continue on. After stopping a few times, we finally made it to our destination at about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. We stayed with our cousin, Gladys, in TN. Friday we didn't do much. Kelly and I went into "town". It's about 15-20 minutes just to get anywhere. On Saturday, we had our family reunion. It was fun. There are a lot of people there. I don't know most of them but it's fun still the less. Sunday we went to church and just hung out at the house.

We left Monday and started to head to our next destination- Branson, MO. We took our time and stopped at a few antique places. We got to Branson on Tuesday afternoon. We had to have lunch at Lambert's. They're famous for their "throwed" rolls. If you want a hot roll, you have to catch it. So.. bring your mitt! :D

After a DELICIOUS meal, we found our hotel and rested for a little while. We had tickets to go see the new "NOAH: The Musical". We've heard great reviews about it, so we decided to go. OH MY GOODNESS!! If you happen to get the chance, it's WONDERFUL!! You actually feel like you are one of the animals on the Ark. It is expensive but it's about the same as any of the other shows up there. I'd give it 5 stars! :D

Wednesday we got up and did a little shopping. We then started heading back home. We thought we would stay in Benton, AR but the antique shops we wanted to go to weren't going to be open on Thursday. :( So, we ate dinner at Chili's and drove to my aunt and uncle's in Mt. Pleasant, TX. Hey.. it's free and we got to see our newest cousin, who is 6 months old. We got up on Thursday and spent a little time with them before heading back. We got back in about 5:30 p.m. yesterday. We unloaded the car and vegged.

It was a pretty good vacation. Mom celebrated her birthday while we were gone. It always seems to fall on vacation time!

Now it's back to reality. I'm heading back to Houston tomorrow morning. We have teacher in-service all next week, so I have to be there for that. I'll have to blog once I get my new classroom set up. Hopefully all the work is done.

Until then...

P.s. I know Mom took pictures, so I'll try to see if I can upload some. :D

Life This Past Week

Well... life this past week was fun. My friend Jeremy was in town and stayed with us for a little over a week. He left yesterday to head back to Houston to stay with some other friends of both of ours.

We went to the Mesquite Rodeo on Friday when he got here. That was fun. It was faster than I remember it being. We had pretty good seat and the riders were getting knocked off left and right!

Saturday was my birthday, so of course we had to "PARTAY"! ;)

Sunday was church and then we did a little shopping. That night we went to a church member's house and had a swim party.

Monday we went to the Frisco Roughriders game. We sat right behind home plate. It was HOT!!! We were in shade but it was still hot! The game was great. My name was on the big screen during the birthday annoucements. They won the game over the San Antonio Missions.

Tuesday we went shopping at the outlet mall in Allen. Afterwards we went to Stonebriar and did some more shopping. That night we went to see The Dark Knight and then went to dinner at Abuelos.

Wednesday we just stayed here. Jeremy went to the Rangers game that night by himself.

Thursday we went to Frisco and went shopping. That night we went to the Roughriders game again. This time my dad joined us. It was me and the guys! :) We were on the 3rd base line, so it was still HOT but the tickets we got were in what they call the "Teddy" section, which means we get to get all-you-can-eat hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks included with the price of the ticket. I liked that. ;)

Friday I had to take my car to CarMax to get the tailgate fixed. I spent most of the morning there trying to take care of it. Jeremy had to come and get me because they're not going to have it done until probably Monday or Tuesday. :(

Saturday we went to pick up a washer/dryer for my sister. Jeremy was so kind to stay and help us go pick it up and load it on the trailer. :D (Thank you Jeremy!) When we got back, he loaded up the car and headed back to Houston. Hopefully I'll be able to see him again before he leave. He's my friend that lives in England. He heads back at the end of August.

Plans for this week are to get ready for vacation. We're leaving BRIGHT AND EARLY on Thursday morning to travel to Tennessee. We have a family reunion every year at this time, so we just make it into our family vacation. Other than that, I don't plan on doing a lot.

Well.. I better go and wash some clothes so I'll have things to wear on vacation. I'll blog about vacation once we get back. Hopefully I'll have some pictures!

The Dark Knight

Okay... I like Heath Ledger. Come on.. what's there not to like! ;)

He was a good actor that just decided to leave the earth a little too early. The Dark Knight was the last movie he did. It is based on the DC Comic Batman.

This movie is cool. It has some great special effects. Jeremy, Kelly and Charles (Kelly's friend) and I went to see it last night. There was only 1 part that I didn't like but that was because it was gross. (I'm not into gross things like that! Ewww! :) )

Heath did such a great job. You didn't even realize it was him, unless you knew he was in the movie. Jeremy said he didn't realize it was him until the credits started rolling and it said that it was in memory of Heath.

Christian Bale, Maggie Gylenhall(?), Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and others were good as well.

I would recommend seeing it if you're into comics or like action movies. It was pretty good. I'd give it 3 stars.

OVER THE HILL... OFFICIALLY!

HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY TO ME! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! (I'm singing this.. can't you tell! ;) )

I am officially 30 years old today... July 26th, 2008. It was 30 years ago today that I came into this lovely world. I was born at 1:10 p.m in Dallas... I think at Presbyterian Hospital.

An interesting side note about the year I was born.... It was the same year that the 1st ever test tube baby was born. She was born on July 25th, somewhere over in England. I saw her picture and stuff online the other day. Pretty cool, huh!

My family threw a party for me to celebrate. The menu consisted of brisket, smoked sausage, chicken, homemade baked beans, pasta salad, potato salad and homemade rolls. For dessert, we of course had birthday cake. My sister made it for me(see picture above). We also had my mom's famous banana pudding.

We invited several friends over and had a wonderful time of sitting around the table eating and talking.

I am thankful that God has given me these 30 years and hopeful that he will give me at least 30 more!

Nothing Much This Week

Not a lot has been going on this week. I've sort of stayed here at the house.

Let's see... what have I done:

Monday- I cleaned out my desk and rearranged some of the things at my desk... Fun.. I know but I didn't realize that I had that much junk just stuffed in there! It really needed it!

Tuesday- I went to school to see how the renovation process is going. My room is huge now! The wall that was there between my room and the one next door is gone! I can't wait to it in there and start decorating my new room. For just starting last week, the workers have done a lot. There were several walls already knocked out. Some rooms were gutted out to make room for new offices, a computer lab, etc. My principal said that they should have it done before August 1st. I'm going to hold my breath, but I'm just hoping that everything will be done before school starts.

Wednesday(Today)- I cleaned my kitchen and paid some bills. Other than that, not much.

Starting tomorrow, I'll be babysitting the kids. Jim and Cheryln are going to Florida for a business trip and I'm staying here with the kids. Hopefully Lillie won't be too sad with Mommy gone for a few days.

We're getting the outside of our house repainted. It's starting to look really nice. They should have it done tomorrow or Friday.

I promise I'll have more to talk about in the coming weeks. Let's see.. I'll have Jeremy here to blog about. I'll have my BIG birthday. We're going on vacation. School will be starting.

So stay tuned! :D

Back at Home... At least for a few weeks!

I'm back at home in Houston right now. I got back on Sunday afternoon. Not a lot has happened since then. It was good to sleep in my own bed and get back to life down here. I'll be here for a couple of weeks, then I return back to Carrollton for my 30th birthday! Plus, we are going on a family vacation to Tennessee. Also, my friend Jeremy is coming over. He'll be here in 2 weeks! Woo Hoo!!

Let's see... what I am going to do while I'm down here for a few weeks. Well... I went yesterday and got my nails done. They look pretty. I went to HEB to get a couple of groceries to last me while I'm here. I reorganized my books for school. I also organized my wheel drawer that I keep all my personal school supplies in.

Tomorrow I'm thinking about going to Palais Royal. I heard that they are having a sale. I usually don't find anything, but I thought it would be something to do outside of the house. I also have Praise Team practice tomorrow night. I haven't been in a few weeks, so they might say.. "Who are you?" Just kidding. I'll actually be able to go to church this Sunday. It's also my Sunday to sing. That will be nice.

Other than that, not much is going on. I wish there was something more exciting, but I guess that will be in the coming weeks.

Keep looking for more updates!

Here's The Newest Addition!

Here's the Newest Addition to the Family:

Isn't it pretty! :D I got it yesterday at CarMax. It's a 2004 GMC Envoy SLE XL. Here are some of the cool features: 4 doors, 3rd row seats, storage rack, tow hitch and CD/Tape player. It has 43K miles. Not bad for a 4 year car. It drives really smooth. My dad said it's almost like a brand new 2009 model. It was very well kept. It will take a little bit to get used to driving it, but I think I can handle it. I just thought that I would share a picture. :D

What life was like this week!

You might be asking yourself.. what was life like for Kimberly this week? Well.. let me tell you... BUSY!!!!

Okay... here's the story...

1. We had a garage sale this past weekend. So needless to say, we stayed up practically every night going through things. I was planning on selling some of my "excess" teacher items and then also having the garage sale. We went through boxes and boxes and tubs and tubs of stuff. We didn't even know we had so much stuff!! Where did we put it all?? Anyways... we sold a LOT of stuff. We did a pretty good job of selling things. If you want to know how much we made, I'll just tell you that it's over $1,000!! WOO-HOO!!

2. I had lunch with my friend, Amber and her twin boys, Caleb and Jacob. They're so cute. We took them to the Rainforest Cafe. We didn't know if they would like it or not, but them seemed to like it. We actually had an enjoyable lunch. Amber and I were impressed. They did such a great job. I know Amber took some pictures. They might be on her blog at some point. We'll have to wait and see.

3. I'm looking into getting a new car. I've been wanting to get one for a little while now. I've been looking to see if there are any good deals going on, but with the gas prices like they are, I didn't know if I should try or not. Well... I think I've finally decided that I need to get one. Yesterday, I went out to my car to go to church. I started it up and it sounded really funny. It was like it didn't want to go. I knew I hadn't driven it since Tuesday when I met Amber for lunch, but my goodness. It took me what seemed like FOREVER to get to church. We only live about a mile away. It just acted like it would stall out any minute. I finally got to church and I told my Dad. He said he'd look at it after church. Well.. after church he started it up. He said it made a funny sound too but didn't quite know what it was. We decided to go and grab some lunch and then come back and get it. After lunch, we went back to go and get it. Dad popped the hood before going home to see if he could see anything. When he opened it, he said, "Well.. there's your problem." Bet you want to know what the problem was, right? Well... the problem was that a RAT had CHEWED a SPARK PLUG in TWO PIECES!!! THAT STINKIN' RAT!!! Dad was able to drive it home.. actually "putt-putted". It smelled like gas. Dad said it was because it wasn't "running on all cylinders". So... Dad is going to fix the spark plug and then we're going to take it to CarMax and see what they'll give me. Maybe I'll be driving a new car soon. If I get one, I'll try to take a picture of it and show all of you. :D

Well... I better go so that Dad and I can go get the car ready to take to CarMax.

Another VBS Week Completed!

Ahh... Vacation Bible School is now over. I repeat... Vacation Bible School is now over.

No more VBS decorating for me until next year. We just finished SonWorld Adventure Park at church. It was corny but I think the kids enjoyed themselves. Not much happened there. The week just seemed to fly right by. We averaged about 45 children each night. They got to make crafts and some interesting snacks and learn some new songs. You'll have to ask Kelly and Preston about their opinion on the songs!

Our VBS was at night, so I didn't do much during the day. Monday and Tuesday were spent going through things for our garage sale next weekend. I'll have to post later about our HUGE garage sale. What am I saying!?! A Vinson garage sale is ALWAYS a HUGE garage sale!! :D
Anyways... I got sick early Wednesday morning. I think it was a 24 hr. stomach bug. Needless to say, I didn't go on Wednesday night. I was better by Thursday evening and made it the rest of the week.

Today is Saturday. Not much happening today either. I'm washing clothes and trying to clean up the kitchen. I'll start to go through more things for the garage sale this afternoon. That should be fun! :D

Well... the washer and dryer just went off... better go for now!

Outrigger Island

I know.. 2 posts in 1 day!

I forgot to tell you about Outrigger Island. That was the VBS that I just finished at my church in Houston. It was fun. The time just flew by! Before we knew it, I was time to go home.

I taught 3rd grade with another lady. She's like me. She's a young teacher. She teaches 3rd grade, so she knew what to expect. The kids were for the most part well behaved. We averaged 11 each day. That was a pretty good crowd. There were close to 200 workers and "wave riders" each day! That's a lot!

I liked the songs. I'll have to sing one for you some day. They're sorta catchy! Here's a preview of one: A-wiki B-wiki C-wiki are the keys you need to seeking Christianity. It has a "Jamaican feel".

Decorating was easy. Palm Trees, Lantern lights, seashells... Hawaii themed stuff!

My VBS this coming week is SonWorld Adventure Park... it's a carnival theme. Cotton candy and roller coasters! I should have fun decorating this one! I'll have to let you know about it next week!

Well.. until next time! I'm catchin' the next wave outta here! hehehe :D

Pack those bags... it's a ROAD TRIP!!

Okay.. it's Friday. I left for Carrollton this morning. It took me my usual 5 hours. Stopped in Corsicana at Sonic and treated myself to a Chocolate-Banana Shake! Yumm-o! I thought about stopping at the Russell Stover place because a friend told me about it, but I opted not to on this go around. Maybe next time! :D

I unloaded my car, which was packed with stuff for our garage sale and of course, all my clothes and then rested. Driving makes you tired!

So... I'm back in my old stomping grounds. I'll be here for about a month (until July 6th) and then go back home for about a week and then come back here for another month (or until school starts).

Let's see... You might be asking yourself, what am I going to do while I'm here? Well.. tomorrow I'm going to treat myself to a facial and a MUCH needed haircut and color!! My hair will be thanking me! YEAH! :D Sunday is Father's Day and so we have a big family dinner. After that, I'll go and decorate my room for VBS this week. That should be interesting.

Other than that, I don't have a lot planned. I want to go to my usual stores(Mardel, CCA, etc.). I'm not surprised that they haven't called me to see where I am! HAHAHA!! :) I'm planning on having lunch with my friend, Amber and her boys while I'm here. I'll have to post about that when we go. We're going to meet at Grapevine Mills and try to take them to the Rainforest Cafe. Should be interesting!

Well... I'm going to go and veg for awhile! I'll keep you posted on the latest news about my summer!

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Summer's Here and the Time is Right for Dancin' in the Street!

Summer is officially here! Yeah!! :) We got out last Thursday, May 29th. A whole week ahead of most of the other schools that are around us. Some of the kids at church were jealous that we were out already.

Now that summer is here, I just don't know what to do with all this time! HAHAHA!!! Right now, I'm in Spring, which is about an hour away. I'm on a "mini" vacation and spending time with my friends, Karen and Steve Mitchell. Next week, I'm teaching at our Vacation Bible School at my church. That should be fun. The week after that, I'm going back to Carrollton to teach VBS at my church back there. 2 totally different curriculums and themes! I have my work cut out for me!

After all the VBS is over, I get to relax.... a little. My family is planning on having a garage sale, so I have to get things ready for it. That should be fun. I should be up in Carrollton for about a month, then I'll come back here for about a week or so then go back to Carrollton for my birthday. It's the BIG one! My friend, Jeremy, who lives in England, should be in town by then. I'll have to blog when he comes. I might even let him help me think of something to write!

Well... I'm borrowing Karen's computer, so I better go for now. Plus, I'm supposed to be on a "mini" vacation. There aren't computers on vacation!! Unless you're a teacher! :)

Until next time...

1 Year Down... Lots More to Go!

No More School!! Yeah!!! Today was our last day! We're even out before all the other schools that are around us. They have to go for another week! There are some perks to working at a private Christian school!

I have my first "official" year of teaching down. I'm glad that it's over but I will miss seeing all my kids. Some even said that they didn't want to go and that they wanted to stay all year. Those crazy kids! :D

We're going to be remodeling the school over the summer. It's going to get a much needed facelift. I know that we're going to get new carpet and painting walls. There's going to be a new lunch room and a computer lab. All the teachers are going to get laptop computers. In my room, I'm going to get new carpet, new tables and chairs, a new teacher's desk and chair, paint and carpet and also have a wall taken down to have a bigger classroom! I'm so excited. It's going to be like a brand new room when it's all said and done. Pray that the renovations are done before school starts. It would be bad to start a year with a half done classroom.

Anyways... Summer has officially started. I'll have to post later about all my summer plans. It's going to be a busy summer, but I know I'll have fun.

Until next time...

Happy Memorial Day!

Even though most of us have the day off from school or work, we need to remember the REAL reason we celebrate this day. It's not just a day to have friends over for a BBQ or go to the lake. We need to remember those who serve to protect our freedom.

Say a special prayer for those who are currently serving in the military, especially those over in Iraq. Remember those who served their country and have gone on before us. Remember their loved ones left behind.

I have a friend named Michael who is currently serving in Iraq. I'm going to be praying for his safety and for his family and friends back here in the U.S.

Have a fun and safe Memorial Day!

Is it summer yet?

Yes.. it is almost summer time. We get out of school on May 29th. After that I can officially say that I made it through my 1st year of teaching, even though I've already been subbing. That technically doesn't count towards retirement though! Darn! :D I've got a ways to go to get to that point though.

It's been a good year. I had to learn 2 new and totally different curriculum programs for my grades. I got to see what I like and didn't like about the curriculum. I know now what I want to do differently for next year. You're first year is usually difficult than the rest. Hopefully next year, it will be a breeze! Ha!

Well... I think I know what I'm going to be doing this summer. I'm planning on spending some of my time here in Houston and some back in Dallas with my family. My friend, Jeremy is coming over from England and I'll spend some time with him. We're also supposed to be going to a family reunion in Tennessee in August, but with the gas prices like they are, we may not go. I'm also doing 2 back-to-back VBS(Vacation Bible School for those that don't know). That should be fun! I'll have to post about them when I get done.

We're having a Revival this week and church and it's GREAT!! I love the speaker. He's cool. He's funny but also knows what he's talking about. It starts early, so I better go and get something to eat before I have to leave to go.

Have a great day!

There's a First Time for Everything!

Okay... This is pretty neat! I've never had a blog before. I have several friends who have blog spots and thought it would be hard to set one up for myself. Let me tell you... it's easy. If you're a blogger and have any tips for me, send them my way. I hope you like my space. I will try to update you about things are going in my life soon! Bye for now! :D
